TOKYO COLLECTION WEEK News Flash 2
Evaluation of Tokyo Collection
With the arrival of cherry blossoms season, "Tokyo Collection" successfully ended in the city colored in pink with cherry flowers. 37 designers participated in this year's collection, and the crown of everyone's efforts was shined with success.
"Tokyo Collection" used to be held as a long running show. But, thanks to the constant effort of the JFW since its establishment, it was able to be concentrated in a week. It is a big advance because the show and the exhibition can be held at the same session. I am sure that it helps foreign buyers to set up the schedule for visiting to Tokyo.
All designers used their ingenuity for settings and stagings of the collection. The models in new fashions walked down a catwalk of such "Japanesque" stages which were different from Paris Fashion Week. There was a show adding the sense of Kadou (the art of flower arrangement), and there was a show which got inspired by Kabuki. These ideas seem to already have gone beyond the border of the fashion design. Maybe, we should stop calling them a "fashion designer" anymore. This name sounds too archaic for these innovative and advanced creators.
It is so hard to describe each designer's characteristic brilliant work. You must see "Tokyo Collection" by your own eyes to confirm how wonderful their works are.

Based on this season's theme "Misty Blue", the artist, Yuji Ueno, built a desolate night garden on the stage. The sound of birds or human's voices is wafting in the space. The models, putting white dots beside their eyes and covering their heads with the gauzy veils, walk slowly. They wear the slippers of the same fuzzy fabric as the clothing material. The collections include knitted one-piece, capes, and tops decorated with the floral motifs. The hand-knitted ornaments are also used as the accents.

Venue: Tokyo Midtown Hall A
Time: 1 pm
SOMARTA's 2009A/W show was begun with the background videos of the earthly and astronomical images. This season's theme is "ADAMANTINE" meaning hard like a diamond. The models are putting on the highlighted eye shadows, wearing the golden chin pieces, and their hair are like a stray Samurai. In the collections, there are a one-piece whose design represents a diamond pattern by folding the woven fabrics like folding papers, a golden-color knitting wear, a tacked leather wear, and a leather wear that was embossed with arabesque patterns. These are strong designs that remind people of the armor of the war period, some soft knitting wears also are included in the collections.

Brand name:LEP LUSS
Designer:IGETA SEIJI / KATO YOSHIKO
Venue: ZEL CAFE / GALLERY
Time: 2 pm
The name "LEP LUSS" is a coined word meaning "nothing is added". It was named after the company name "LESS PLUS DESIGN". As the name suggests, the collections were held at the natural simple space, and the makeup on the models were also light. Most of the products are in monotone or basic colors like beige, and give people a neat and clean impression. Putting the accents at the silhouette of the sleeves and the tucks of the skirt, their design emphasizes the qualities of fabrics and cutting by eliminating decoration.

This year is the third anniversary of GUT'S DYNAMITE CABARETS. They regard this year as a turning point. The theme of this season is "Tiger Rock".
