Report from Dubai Trip

Ms. Nirei and I went to Dubai last week.

This is how started the story:

An investment advisor for the President in Dubai was visiting Japan with the assist of a Japanese politician, trying to encourage the imports from Japan.

A part of encouragements, we were told to consult fashion related matters, and we talked with the advisor. After the advisor returned to Dubai, we were asked to come to Dubai to meet several developers.

Although it was 4 o’clock in the morning when we arrived, the temperature was 34, in day time, it was over50! Opposite to the outside temperature, it was about 1920 in buildings. Fogged my glasses in one second because of 100% humid index.

As you may have seen the scenery of Dubai through TV, I saw lots of buildings and those on construction. One-forth of worlds’ big cranes are in Dubai, and constructing buildings. Now we can go up to 600m high on the 800m-building but now starting to construct a 1000m building. City planning is now ongoing and expecting to expand population double.

It is wired to see those high buildings in the middle of desert. Muslim could be a one of reasons to turn down Japanese people to enter. Only two biggest Japanese construction companies are there. However, it is unlimited possibilities to export Japanese products.

My job means that I see the style of dress of Dubaians. Because of Muslim restrictions, people wear “Hijab” and  ”Chador” to cover the body. Under those clothes, men wear undershirts, women wear flamboyant dress (fashion) - I could see it from the bottom edge. Some “Chador” are decorated with spangles.

Top-ranked in Westerns are already launched. For retails, HARVEY NICOLES, SACK’S 5TH AVE, MARK & SPENCER are already launched. BARNEY’S NEW YORK is now on the way. SANRIO and MIKIMOTO are the only Japanese companies which have been launched.

I am impressed to see this country’s improvement, which emphasized Finance, Trades and Tourism. At the same time, I really felt powerless as a Japanese. Is that because we are agricultural tribes??

Westerns are aggressive to go into a new land; on the other hand, Japanese aren’t without a certain group. Even that group is no longer aggressive, no more enough power to active including the certain quality.

People who are active behind the scenes, overseas Chinese are no match for Indian. Those Indian are no match for Lebanese. Those Lebanese are no match for Jewish. There aren’t any room for us in this circle??

As same as Dubai, I hear we need some kind of connection to into Middle Eastern market. Knowing that, I think it is very lucky to have this opportunity through “the investment advisor for the President”. Also, we had a chance to talk to the director of Japanese consul at Dubai and explained about JAPAN-FPO too. He was very impressed and putting his hopes on us.

I am confident in what we are doing and what we are looking at.

Sincerely,

Okada from Nire Ups Inc.
